SIGMA 24-105mm F4 DG OS HSM | Art Review

Many photographers with a big budget buy the so-called trinity, that is f/2.8 constant aperture wide, standard and telephoto zoom lenses. Why? Because it is the common knowledge that is the way to go for any serious photographer. But my ‘go-to’ standard zoom lens is a f/4 constant aperture zoom lens, SIGMA 24-105mm f/4 DG OS HSM | Art, although I can afford more pricey standard zooms. I’ve taken tens of thousands of shots with this lens . Let me explain why I prefer this lens.

Nikon Photomentary Exhibition

日本語

DM

I’m joining a photo exhibition organised by the Nikon Photomentary team together with 3 other professional photographers. The exhibition is held at EIZO Galleria in Ginza, Tokyo and is opening the day after tomorrow (Nov. 11) and will close on Nov. 21. Beware that they’re closed on Sundays and Mondays.

In addition to 2 prints, I’m displaying 30 photos on an EIZO’s state-of-the-art 4K monitor ColorEdge CG316-4K. I was utterly blown away by the quality of images that the monitor can present. Good monitors are expensive but it is necessary to invest on them if you’re serious about photography. That said, my ColorEdge is smaller and more affordable. =)

If you’re Google+ and can visit the exhibit on Nov. 20 or 21, you get a chance to print your photos with professional equipment. Find the details on Photomentary’s Google+ Communities shown below:

Nikon AN-SBR2 Black Rapid Quick-Draw Strap

I have been using the AN-SBR2 Black Rapid Quick-Draw Strap for nearly a year. I can say this is one of the best items I ever got. Before I got it, I had been using normal straps that came with cameras I bought. They are, of course, usable. But the product has some remarkable advantages over them.

5 Reasons Why You Gotta Come to Fujigoko in Autumn

If you plan to come to Japan in autumn, I’d definitely recommend you to visit the Fujigoko area in Yamanashi prefecture. Here’s the top 5 reasons:

1) The air is cleaner and Fuji is more visible than summer!
A lot of people visit the area in summer and are often disappointed that they can’t see Fuji. Even people living in the area like me,  sometimes can’t see Fujisan for weeks. So the chance for you to see Fujisan in this season is quite slim.

Blue Pond and Green Ravine

日本語
I travelled around the Northern Japan with a close friend of mine for a week.  I just got a new car, so I drove all the way up to Aomori and took a car ferry there, and then, landed in Hakodate. It was a lot of fun.

After landed in Hokkaido, we visited the Lake Toya area and went to Muroran to join the Google+ 4 year anniversary photowalk. But it was heavily raining. I didn’t want to get soaked to take mediocre shots so we quickly left there and headed to Biei.

Ganesha from Pushkar

日本語
My second solo photo exhibition “Tales of Fuji | Voice of Nature” had ended on June 21, and I came back to the Fujisan area. I do exhibitions in summer every year. It feels like the summer solstice is the New Year’s day for me. I’m in the midst of the New Year holidays now. I briefly stop shooting Fujisan and am going to travel Hokkaido from tomorrow.

When I came back home from Tokyo, I received an order-made frame that I ordered before I went to Tokyo. I bought this frame to put in the handcraft painting of Ganesha, which I bought in Pushkar, India back in 1996. Since I was a backpacker and travelling for a long period of time, I usually didn’t buy anything that was absolutely necessary. But I ordered a team of Indian craftsmen in the town to create this for 4000 rupees.

Does nature have a consciousness? I wanted to hear the voice of nature and ran round Fujisan. I heard something from inside while I was looking through the viewfinder. We are all part of the nature but just forgetting it.

NiSi 150mm Holder System for the Nikon 14-24mm

The Nikkor AF-S 14-24mm f/2.8G ED is one of my favourite lenses. It is sharp from the widest open, and provides very dramatic perspectives. There is, however, one drawback that could cause photographers to hold back buying this awesome lens, that is, the bulbous front lens prevents users from attaching filters.

Laid-Back Photowalk in Kawagoe

日本語

It is fun to do a photowalk with a mirrorless DSLR with an old manual lens attached. Don’t you agree?

DSC03159Sony Alpha 7 + Canon New FD 50mm f/1.4

Recently, sales of art photographs grew up to be one of my main income sources. I usually try to  take great landscape shots which I can sell at galleries. But I began photography because I enjoyed taking photographs.  I just need to take photographs without any commercial aim  at times to remember why I do it. Yes, I do it because I like it. So I did a little photowalk in Kawagoe after seeing pallas’s cats at a zoo in the area.
